ON THE ROAD

Maybe it's the visual equivalent of Kerouac's On The Road; a team of photographers with a mobile photo studio who take their vintage Hasselblads and mud and river water stained canvas backdrop to the streets. What they create are portraits. As Clay Enos (half of the team of Enos and (Stephan) Ghukfvin) puts it, "You walk around the streets and there they are, subjects! So why not photograph them?."

So far, New York has been their city of choice. They've captured over 20,000 New Yorkers (archived on their website streetstudio.com) over the passt year and a half. And while the set-up is one of traditional portraiture—no candid moments here, the results aremodern and singular. The pathos and original style of each "model" 'crystalized beneath the glare of the duo's "love-you-baby" lighting. Eventually, Enos would like to see a compilation in book form (publishers take note). In the mean time, plans are underway for a DVD if images and interviews as well as trips to other cities, hoepfully with equally intriquing characters.
