Streetstudio is our completely mobile photo studio. Created to allow us to take portraits of passersby, we rely on the random magic of the street to provide our subjects. As one of us shoots, the other either reloads his camera, answers the questions of curious onlookers, or speaks with potential subjects. Nobody is denied a moment before the lens.

Within the circus-like atmosphere of the setup, the two of us make portraits that look like they 've been made in a traditional studio. Both of us shoot with vintage Hasselblads and a one-of-a-kind modified film light dubbed affectionately “the love-you-baby light” because of its flattering qualities. We hand-make the backdrops out of large stretches of canvas covered with a mixture of local soils, nearby water and some secret ingredients. Then, as quickly as it can be built, we can pack everything into our customized van and whisk it to another location. Every aspect of the streetstudio reflects our attention to process, craft and individuality. Equally important is that we get people to pose for us that we would never otherwise reach.

Streetstudio’s major focus nowadays is New York 000 in which we are creating a huge collection of portraits on the streets of New York City. We are looking for a publisher for this work so please spread the word. The more people know about us, the better chances we have of making a beautiful book. Clay has gone on to shoot additional cities including Amsterdam and Black Rock City
